2018 WMC

With the theme “Creating a Better Future”, the 2018 MWC marked the starting point of 5G commercialization and a testing ground for AI-enabled IoT. Industry pioneers demonstrated end-to-end 5G interoperability based on 3GPP standards. Through collaborative verification of base stations, terminal chips, and test instruments, seamless connectivity across multi-vendor devices was achieved for the first time. They also announced the launch of large-scale 5G trial network construction in major global cities, laying a network foundation for scenarios such as industrial automation and telemedicine. AI technology began to move from concept to implementation—for instance, optimizing network operation efficiency via deep learning and enabling dynamic virus detection in mobile security—signaling the initial integration of communication infrastructure and artificial intelligence.
