2022 WMC

Under the theme “CONNECTIVITY UNLEASHED”, the 2022 MWC served as a testing ground for 5G-Advanced (5G-A) and the metaverse. With enhanced bandwidth and deterministic latency, 5G-A networks supported scenarios such as holographic communication and industrial digital twins—for example, enabling remote collaboration and real-time production line monitoring via AR/VR technology. Innovative metaverse applications emerged, such as virtual city platforms that combined digital twins and holographic imaging, allowing users to “attend” virtual concerts or participate in cross-regional collaboration. Green communication technology was further upgraded; AI optimization reduced base station energy consumption by over 40% per station, driving communication infrastructure toward sustainability. The integration of 5G-A and the metaverse marked the deep penetration of digital technology from consumer entertainment to industries, reshaping the interaction and collaboration patterns of human society.
